Marine Mammals
Humpback Whales
Seasonal visitors known for breaching, tail‑slapping, and bubble‑net feeding. They migrate through the Sound each year to feed on krill and small fish.
Grey Whales
Common in spring as they migrate north. Many pause in Barkley Sound’s sheltered bays to feed in shallow water.
Orcas (Killer Whales)
Both Bigg’s (transient) and occasional resident orcas travel through the Sound, hunting seals, sea lions, and porpoises.
